Legal Design – How we help clients understand the trademark registration process

Not everyone who decides to file a trademark application needs to know all the procedural details. For many people, this is a new experience, so questions naturally arise.

As professional representatives, it is our role to answer those questions. Our task is not only to develop a strategy and then prepare and file the application, but also to guide the client through the entire procedure step by step, explaining what is happening and why. We want our clients to feel confident and to always know at which stage their case currently is.

That is why we decided to introduce a solution that addresses many of the most common questions.

Legal design in practice

In the spirit of legal design, we created an illustration that clearly and accessibly presents the consecutive stages of trademark registration – from filing the application to final registration.

In a single, easy-to-read graphic, we show all key stages: formal examination, substantive examination, publication of the trademark together with the opposition period, and registration. Each step is connected by simple arrows and described using clear, understandable language.

When developing the infographic, we focused on the questions we hear most often from our clients. Our goal was to answer them in a simple, transparent, and visual way.

Visual design played a crucial role in making the information accessible and engaging. Our illustration, like other visual materials prepared for the firm, was designed by the exceptionally talented and passionate Anna from Pola Projektowe (www.polaprojektowe.pl) – a graphic designer whose work stands out for its creativity and attention to detail.

How long does trademark registration take?

One of the most common questions we hear from our clients is: “How long does trademark registration take?”

Each case is slightly different, so there is no single, definitive answer. In our infographic, we have included the approximate duration of each stage of the procedure to give clients a realistic timeline, assuming there are no obstacles to registration.

It is important to note that even when all stages proceed smoothly, the registration itself takes around four months. This is due to statutory requirements. Both Polish and EU trademark applications are published and must go through a mandatory three-month opposition period, which cannot be shortened.

We take care of the case at every stage

We want our clients to understand what is happening with their case. We believe that an informed client is a calmer and more confident client. That is why we send the new leaflet together with the application summary, including confirmation of trademark filing, information on official fees, and a warning about fraudulent payment requests, which trademark applicants are increasingly exposed to.

The leaflet is a small but important step towards clear and client-friendly communication. Our goal is to ensure that cooperation with our firm is not only effective, but also transparent and easy to understand at every stage.

And we do not stop at the leaflet. Our clients can contact us at any time, ask additional questions, and receive explanations that help them feel confident throughout the entire trademark registration process.
